NISLT Concludes Membership Professional Examination Nationwide: The FCAH&PT, Vom Experience
The Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) Membership Professional Examination (MPE) was scheduled to run on 22nd and concluded on 23rd of April, 2026 for the April Diet.
The Management of the Institute designated the Assistant Director, Information and Publicity, Adeyanjie Christopher with Adebisi Abiodun in his team to the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAH&PT), Vom to invigilate the MPE.
The task was made easy with the provisions of the code of conducts for NISLT staff and invigilators and also for students/candidates for the examination.
On arrival at the College on Tuesday, 21st April, 2026, the NISLT Team for the examination were well received by the Head of Department (HOD) of Science Laboratory Technology, FCAH&PT, Vom, Banjo Adebiyi A. with the other College staff and they moved straight to see the Department’s preparedness for the examination. The Team was taken round the various laboratories to be used for the practicals and the 200 capacity hall for the theory examinations and a visit to the College Registrar, Mr. Umar Dansuleiman II.
The NISLT team got to the examination hall at 8:15am for the theory examination for Module 2 Paper 3 (GENERAL Laboratory Techniques) and Module 1, Paper 2 (Theory) with 73 and 12 students respectively on the 22nd April, 2026. The examination started at exactly 9:45am after opening the well-sealed examination papers in the presence of the students, other invigilators and the HOD, SLT Department for both papers and the examination ended at 10:50am for paper 3 and 12:45pm for paper 2.
On the 23rd April, 2026 the NISLT Team for the MPE got to the examination hall at exactly 8:00am for the Module 2, Paper 4 with 73 students writing the examination that started at exactly 9:05am and ended at 10:10am.
After the Paper 4 examination was concluded the 2 member team proceeded to invigilate the paper 1 practical examination. The Environmental Biology, Chemistry and the Microbiology Laboratories were used for the examination which meant the team had to depend on the laboratory staff to be effective in invigilating the examination. The NISLT Team Lead called the three laboratory staff of the SLT Department who themselves were licensed members of the SLT Profession to a meeting at the Environmental Biology Laboratory where he read a riot act and gave them reasons why they cannot afford to mislead their professional body to produce quacks as professionals because the members of the public would bear the brunt and it could be them and that it would be better for the students to fail if they are not prepared for the examination and be made to return to school to prepare for the next diet. Haven addressed them, the examination started at 1:25pm with the opening of the well-sealed question papers and the examination ended at 4.25pm.
The Team Lead invigilated the Microbiology Practical in the Microbiology Laboratory together with an invigilator from the SLT Department with five students while he shuttled the Environmental Biology Laboratory with one student that was invigilated by the Department’s laboratory staff.
The Chemistry Laboratory with two students were invigilated by NISLT Team member, Adebisi Abiodun and an invigilator from the department.
On the 21st the HOD, SLT Department lead the NISLT Team to the College Registrar as the Provost was unavoidably absent, she was on another very important engagement outside the college and at the end of the examination, the HOD consequently lead the NISLT Team to the Registrar who took the Team to the College Provost and she spoke with the Team Lead on phone.
The Provost of the College, Dr. (Mrs.) Christine Utoh-Ojemudia, who spoke with the NISLT Team Lead on Phone on the visit of the Team to her office was very delighted in the Team’s coming to the College and apologized that she could not see the Team in person due to her very tight schedule. She however congratulated the Department which she said just had its maiden Induction ceremony and now their Membership Professional Examination. She however commended the Acting Director General, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology, Dr. Peter Adefisoye Oluwafisoye (FISLT) for his commitment in enhancing the progress of the Science Laboratory Technology professionals. She further sends her regards and asked for more collaborations with the Institute.
In his response, the NISLT Team Lead to the College, the Public Relations Officer of the Institute, Christopher Adeyanjie, thanked Mrs. Provost for her kind words and reception of the NISLT Team despite the fact that she was not on ground in person to receive the Team members from NISLT and promised to take her message to the Acting DG while he spoke auspiciously about the HOD, SLT Department and the very well behaved students during the examination, which he said cannot be unconnected with the hard work of the HOD and his lieutenants.
The Registrar, Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Vom, Mr. Umar Dansuleiman II, while speaking during the visit commended the NISLT Team for exercising professionalism in handling the examination invigilation, he spoke about the proper conduct of the SLT students during the examination in a repot received by the College. In fact, it is difficult to find students during such examination conducting themselves in a manner devoid of examination malpractice which the PRO also confirmed to the Provost on phone, this must be as a result of the Acting DG’s proper planning and choice of staff he knows could handle the invigilation without fail, he said.
Lauding the Registrar, Adeyanjie Christopher requested to know why there was a drop in the number of students who wrote the April 2026 diet compared to the number of students that wrote the October 2025 diet.
In his response the HOD, SLT Department, Banjo Adebiyi A. informed the NISLT Team that the Department use to present students for Modules 1 and 2, this session the Department could not present students for Module 1 except those students who did not do Module 1 the previous session. He further stated that in the October diet this year, the Department will be presenting students for only Module 1 except those students who may not pass Module 2 in this April diet, which he said was responsible for the shortfall in the number of students who wrote the examination. However, the HOD assured that the situation would be corrected with time.
